One time I went for a run and there was a man playing a keyboard balanced on a pushcart. I had my phone, so I took a picture casually.
My husband saw him for the first time months later and wanted to know my thoughts. Was he performing to make money or just for the entertainment? Was he okay?
I didn’t stop to conduct an interview for the blog because maybe he wasn’t well but mostly maybe he just wanted to play the way I just wanted to run. Me asking him to pose for a photo and give me his story could have turned his happy mood sour. Easier to leave him alone and just appreciate the music.
I took this picture farther away because I didn’t like how he was getting lost in the clutter of store fronts and cars in my first take below.
The keyboard is kind of enormous. I think that might be why he’s not out very often with it. That and New York has been so cold for so many months.
