Snow Not Ready For This

When a giant storm is forecast but at the same time it’s not clear which model we should be paying attention to, the most stressful part is waiting to see what the schools want to do.

I had to come back with my phone when I saw this

The first year I was a parent in this situation, Facebook groups existed so I could see people getting angry that there wouldn’t be enough snow to justify the snow day. Then we ended up with at least 8 inches. I lived 4 blocks away from the school, but teachers and other families lived much farther. While my kids were playing in the snow, I brought a ruler and posted pictures. The snow day made sense to me.

Not sure what happened here, but I love how it shows off the depth

In future years when it snowed in March and school wasn’t called off, I brought the younger siblings to visit the school and posted videos in the Facebook group to show off how many kids had made it to school. I was the president of the parent council.

Tree branches were still covered in snow despite blizzard conditions

This latest storm was a lot to deal with when walking a Corgi. She loves snow, but some blocks were way too deep to walk. I had to carry her sometimes. The trees lining our blocks are not that big, so the threat of being hit by branches suddenly snapping under the weight of all the snow was pretty minimal.

While we could have used more days off after this snowstorm, I was happy to start reclaiming my time. My building’s driveway was blocked off for days, so it helped me establish that everyone can use public transportation on their own. I made a lot of hot chocolate on demand, though! Do you think that was a fair trade?
