Through the magic of Facebook groups, I posted that I wanted to do more Trade for Prints (TFP) shoots, and Claire volunteered. We talked on the phone and quickly came up with a date in April. Our shoot came together very quickly. The day of the shoot, I decided I should tack on video.
Claire had never heard the idea until she arrived on set. (And our set was just walking around Central Park.) I had scoped out locations, but there was really no time to walk all the way back to where to I thought she should be pretending to work and then go find the pretty places for portraits. The main goal was always nice portraits for her.
The video story was that, frustrated with all the messages on her phone, she goes to the park to touch grass and escape. I really did have her touch grass. Then I cut it from the final edit.
It’s a super basic story, so the edit didn’t take long. The first barrier to completing this video was making time to edit. The next barrier was not being happy with the missing pieces. Like, there was no story board so there was feedback or revisions. We just met up and shot. I think we spent 90 minutes all together on portraits and video.
My plan is to keep shooting so it’s not the only video in my portfolio. It should be even easier with a real plan in the future.
