Last Minute Booking

I’ve been trying to be a better businessperson, which means I should be able to predict incoming and outgoing funds. This year hasn’t made it any easier to figure that out.

With my strobe light, the other gym goers fell into darkness

This month I was supposed to produce headshots for the C-suite at Crunch Fitness. Like I literally dropped off my daughter at soccer practice and headed over to Crunch Bowery to check out the supplies. (Did we have enough white seamless? Is there a steamer? What else did my wardrobe stylist need to bring?) Then we had a snowstorm and the team from Texas canceled. It was such a bad storm, the New York team wasn’t even going to get to the Bowery.

Next thing I knew I was being asked to photograph “an influencer” who had a deal with Crunch that the Creative VP was just learning about. Googling Carl Radke put some heat on the situation. Summer House was kicking off a new season and Cake Eater had a book tour going. To prep for the shoot, I started reading Mr. Radke’s book.

Another day, another soccer practice. I dropped off my daughter and headed to the Union Square location to check it out. My goal was to figure out where we should be shooting and how to pull that off.

Waiting for PR and then video to get their shots in this set up

Carrying all my equipment in a hurry because I’d gotten turned around coming off the subway, I totally was being a big baby in my mind. Like, why am I doing this? Funds are only flowing out. What’s the point?

Actually being on set and making calls about what’s next and how to work it out changed things in my head. I mean, a last minute shoot is still a hard job, but totally not justification to quit altogether.

Luckily for me, the trainer suggested he go for it and jump

Having all the reactions online to a fight breaking out during the filming of Summer House, I was looking forward to taking advantage of click-bait like “See Carl Radke throw punches” because I do have him boxing at the gym. Maybe in a future post when I’m sure I’m free to use the finalized images.
