Got Milk?

sign posted to tree advertising wet nurse

This fall I was motivated to get a blog started because I had started running in a new neighborhood. I never used to run on the street. The only time I was out before was when I was driving kids or walking dogs, so I couldn’t be too focused on all the quirky things in Brooklyn. Running on the street introduced me to all kinds of weirdness.

One time when I wasn’t running, I went to catch a bus and saw this sign. It fit in with my idea of starting an #ontherun tag.

When I nursed my firstborn, I had stupid amounts of extra milk. One time I was at the laundromat and a story came on CNN about how long milk could be stored and how women were shipping frozen milk to other people. The woman behind the counter suggested I get in on that like a work-from-home opportunity.

This sign is actually advertising premium Israeli-made formula, not a wet nurse. But in a rush, I snapped the picture thinking it was a wilder story.

  1. Update: Not too far from where I saw this flyer, I was walking my dog and a woman stopped me. She was pushing a bassinet on wheels. It’s a whole style of stroller I’ve never really understood. While she’s confirming my dog is a Corgi and petting Latte, I can’t stop marveling at how her infant is getting tummy time on a walk. It was so genius! The front of the stroller is mesh for babies to see through. I’m low key a fan now.
