One of my favorite moments on a shoot isn’t the “perfect pose.” It’s the moment someone surprises themselves.
For this fitness campaign, our model was squatting a challenging weight for the first time with guidance from a real trainer. Rather than posing her for a single hero shot, I kept photographing the entire interaction.
The concentration. The uncertainty. The realization that she’d done it. The pride that followed.
Those are the moments I’m always looking for.
Great photography isn’t always about asking someone to smile. Sometimes it’s about recognizing the moment that’s already happening—and being ready when it does. That’s why I keep shooting. Authentic expressions rarely last more than a second, but they often become the images people remember.
The collage shows four of my favorite frames from that sequence, but you can see where the whole set up started in this montage:
Uncorrected (Mike’s shorts should be black) but our model looks perfect SOOC because of @olgaria.mua
