The highway signs alerting drivers to scenic views always have me curious. We had a dog with us for our Thanksgiving trip, so we stopped at the first one in the Appalachians.
My attempts to wrangle two kids and a dog were minimal. I was the only driver, so I didn’t want to waste too much energy. The dog’s energy? That we could expend. Of course, it’s my daughter jumping around in the first photo.
We headed to a clearing with rocks and tree stumps. I already knew they were going to have awkward shadows from the full sun light, so I went ahead and snapped pictures that gave more of an idea of where we were rather than looking nice.
When we started to walk down the road to keep moving around, I asked my daughter to turn back to look at my phone. I could select her face and tell it to adjust the exposure to be brighter, but it’s not the same as having a real camera. Her face is also pretty blue.
My tips for pictures on road trips
- Bring a real camera if you want control over the exposure
- Build in time to figure out the best way to arrange people with the background
- Don’t stress it! This is all part of the memories
